Physics Master's One Year Later
These are findings from AIP's follow-up survey of physics Master's who earned their degrees in the classes of 2005 and 2006. The surveys were conducted in the winter following the academic year in which they received their degree and asked about their post degree status. This analysis is limited to master's degree recipients, from both master's and doctoral-granting departments, who left their departments and entered the workforce or continued with graduate study at another department. Master's who left the US after receiving their degree are not included in the study.

Universities that awarded the most degrees
Comparatively few African Americans or Hispanic Americans earned degrees in physics. However, some physics departments have succeeded in attracting and retaining under-represented minorities in physics. We are acknowledging the following universities because, since 1998, they have awarded the largest number of physics bachelor's or physics PhDs to Hispanic Americans or African Americans.

2004 Physics & Astronomy Academic Workforce (December 2005)
This is the latest in a series of biennial reports on the number of faculty, turnover, retirements, and recruitments at physics degree-granting departments. The number of faculty positions in physics has increased by about 10% since 1994. However, more positions are being filled with part-time and temporary faculty than ten years ago. The number of minority faculty members increased significantly at physics departments, and new female faculty were hired at rates consistent with degree production in the past. This report also provides data on the relationship between the number of full-time equivalent faculty and the number of bachelor’s degrees awarded. For the first time, this report contains data on stand-alone astronomy departments.

Physics Students From Abroad: Monitoring the Continuing Impact of Visa Problems (September 2005)
This 12 page report documents the impact of visa regulations on international students in US physics graduate programs during the Fall of 2004. It quantifies the number of first-year international students who enrolled and the proportion who were denied entrance or substantially delayed due to visa difficulties. The report describes changes in visa denial rates and international student enrollment patterns compared to two years earlier. It also discusses the visa problems experienced by non-US citizen faculty, postdocs and previously enrolled students when they tried to return from travel abroad.

Does it Matter Where I go to College (June 2004)
This report compares outcomes for physics bachelors from large and small departments, defined by number of bachelor's degrees awarded. It also looks at differences in physics bachelors' outcomes between departments that grant PhDs in physics and those that award only a bachelor's degree in physics. Finally, the report shows that physics departments whose bachelors were very satisfied with the department's climate in the early 1990s had higher numbers of graduates per FTE faculty member in the mid- to late-1990s.
